Newspaper

Me and Georgina Simpson are going to create a free newspaper targeted at teenagers as we have found that this market has not been covered by anybody else. We will be dealing with issues that concerne teenagers such as bullying, drinking and relationships. We will be creating a front page and an inside spread concerning these issues. We will be taking photo's and creating our own adverts to put up in the newspaper. We have looked at other free newspapers around Bromley to get an idea on what a free newspaper should look like.

R: We are representationg the youth of Bromley by looking at issues that affect teenagers around the area

I: Our ideology will be modern and to treat everyone with the respect that they would like to be treated

V: We are aiming to make this a free newspaper so we are going to get our money back by renting advertising sapce

A: Our audience is going to be teenagers around the Bromley area.

L: The language of our newspaper will be orientated to be catchy and almost like a friend talking to you so as we keep the newspaper interesting to our teenage audience

I: We have researched local newspaper (e.g. The News Shopper") and found out that they are run by a company called Gannett. So our newspaper would be run by us but owned by a company similar to Gannett.

N: The layout of our paper will be lots of pictures and small paragraphs of writing with big bold headlines

G:
Our genre is going to be one that informs teenagers about current issues in a way that interests them.

Newspaper Article - Epic Times

Me and Georgina Simpson created our own Newspaper article. We chose to do a story about Lolcatz and Loldogz. We looked at various newspapers to find out what the general layout for newspapers was. We then thought of a title for our newspaper and came up with Epic Times. We then drew out a rough layout for our newspaper that included ad placements.
We then created the layout on indesign and started to create our title. We then wrote out our story and created our "Loldog" picture by getting a picture of my dog that I had taken and adding a funny caption. We then added some more adverts at the bottom and then some pictures explaining what would be inside of the Newspaper. We then also added a smaller story near the end of the front page about "Haggis Flu"
We learned the basic layout of Newspapers and colour schemes. Also about how you quickly have to grab the audiences attention within 3 seconds, so short, snappy and easy to read headlines are a must.

Your package, sir

Comment on the best bits: Dynamic, moving fast, and just beginning to have some narrative because of the man in black being around.

Things you can improve: Get all these elements in place. The gunshot doesn't make much impact. You need to work on structure.

Marks are out of 3 for this:
0 means you haven't done it.
1 is lowest - it means that there is a lot that needs to be done, but that you have the material to sort it out and make it work.
2 means that you've done the job competently and it is OK.
3 means that you've done some parts of it really very well, and should work to exploit this.

The Package

This is our final product. We added music from Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. Georgina then took parts of the piece of music "Sara Ni Tatakau Monotachi" and then put them back together so that it matched the video playing. We then added fading to the music at the beginning and the end and also at the crucial suspense point, where someone gets shot. We then downloaded a gun shot clip to add into the gap mentioned above (where someone gets shot).

Fade effect

After putting a rough cut together we then cropped the clips down to the right size (cutting out any footage that we didn't need.) This proved quite difficult at points as we had to cut it at a very specific point before the next clip started. We then also added a fade effect near the end so that it faded out into black then fading back in about 3 seconds later. This was so that we could add a gun shot sound whilst the screen was black to add suspense until the screen faded back in with the lead character running away with the bag.

1 minute film

Me and Georgina Simpson have created a one minute film about a package. Our idea was to have a person running with a package whilst being chased by another person.

Georgina filmed whilst I ran away with the "Package". We managed to find a willing friend who we could use as the other person who does the chasing.

After we filmed me and Georgina sat down and put the film onto the computer. Georgina then captured the clips we needed using Final Cut Express. After Georgina captured the clips we needed she then put them into a timeline in the correct order.

We now had a rough cut of the film which lasted about 58 seconds. We still need to add some effects and background music into the film before it is completed.
